History
Rex Manufacturing and Sales began as a hydraulic door closer manufacturing
company. Len Hall, the owner/manager of the original company, Rex Engineering,
wanted to retire and sold the plant and machinery to Rex Mfg & Sales. Operations
continued at the original factory at 155 Leicester St, Fitzroy, Victoria.
The main product at the time, Dux door closers, were a common feature in schools
and hospitals throughout Australia. Their distinctive design made them instantly
recognizable, and their reliability and repairability made them a favorite with large
companies and government departments.
With the demand for a more modern design came the
introduction of the Dux Premier door closer.
Demand for door closers was falling rapidly and the decision was made to
cease production due to their unviability.
There was another product, the Rex pivot hinge, whose demand was steadily
growing. It was increasingly being used in supermarkets, especially on deli doors.
