The Rex gate hinge, (formerly known as the Royal), started life as a cast iron device, including the inner workings and brackets. Working with cast iron is a labor intensive and dirty process, and increasingly expensive. The Rex (Royal) Series 1 Type A Gate Hinge With the sale of the Fitzroy factory and ending of door closer manufacturing, it was the right time to update the gate hinge. Series 2 was a hinge with the body made from laser cut components, removing the cast iron components and the machining processes. The Rex Series 2 Type A Gate Hinge A major investment in tooling created the series 3 gate hinge. The precision nature of diecasting reduces the need for machining operations, thus simplifying the manufacturing process. Series 3 is the current product.
